BROWN DEER, WI (WTAQ) – Governor Scott Walker said Monday morning that Wisconsin’s new right-to-work law “sends a powerful message across the country, and across the world.”
Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, legislative leaders, and others gathered around the Republican Walker as he signed the measure at Badger Meter in the Milwaukee suburb of Brown Deer.
Walker referred back to a slogan from early in his tenure, which said “Wisconsin is Open for Business.” Monday, he said it’s “more than just a slogan. It’s a way of doing business.”
Walker — a potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate — left Badger Meter without answering reporters’ questions.
Senate GOP Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald told reporters that his party is “reversing 50 years of Democratic control, and the unions building on themselves.”
Stephanie Bloomingdale of the state AFL-CIO issued a statement that it’s “the people of Wisconsin who are paying the price of his unchecked political ambition.”
