WAUKESHA, WI (WTAQ) – The chief judge of Wisconsin’s four appeals’ courts will retire this summer.
Richard Brown announced Monday that he’ll step down in August, after serving in the state’s appellate judicial system for the entire 37 years it’s been in existence — ever since 1978.
The 69-year-old Brown is currently a judge on the 2nd District Appeals’ Court in Waukesha.
He says the youngest of his four children will start college in the fall — and it’s a good time to retire because he and his wife will become “empty nesters.”
Brown also noted the death of a brother at age 60, as well as last year’s death of Milwaukee appellate judge Ralph Adam Fine.
Brown says he’s in good health, but anything can happen — and he wants to do some traveling and golfing yet, and perhaps learn how to read music.
