MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – A suburban Milwaukee man could die in prison for killing his wife of 55 years.
77-year-old Jack Lang was sentenced Friday to 8 years behind bars on a reduced charge of reckless homicide.
Police said Lang shot his wife June to death last spring, saying she nagged him over the idea that the couple should move into an assisted living center. He tried claiming insanity, but doctors couldn’t support that finding.
So Lang managed to strike a plea deal with prosecutors to drop his first-degree intentional homicide charge and plead guilty to a lesser count.
As a father, police volunteer, and 33-year employee for AC Delco, Lang was described by his lawyer as “the kind of man we all aspire to be” — but his growing physical limitations led him to act in unexpected ways.
After shooting his wife, Lang tried killing himself 3 times — but he only grazed his temple before he called 911.
