WHITEFISH BAY, WI (WTAQ) – “H.R.” died Monday.
That’s how Rush Limbaugh’s radio listeners knew Christopher “Kit” Carson, a suburban Milwaukee native and the chief producer for Limbaugh’s show.
The 58-year-old Carson was known on the air as “H.R.,” in a reference to former President Richard Nixon’s chief of staff H.R. Haldeman.
On Monday’s show, Limbaugh said he admired Carson’s valiant fight against brain cancer which was diagnosed 4 years ago. It fell into remission two years ago but returned last fall.
Carson graduated from Whitefish Bay High School and went to New York to be an actor. He was working at a magazine in the same building as the EIB Network when he was asked if he wanted to work part-time for Limbaugh’s show.
That was soon after it began in 1988. He answered phones at first, and EIB general manager Kraig Kitchin said Carson’s rapid instincts were much appreciated by the host — and H.R. grew through the ranks to become his main producer.
Limbaugh said Carson always appreciated things, and never took anything special for granted — including the time he entertained clients in a suite at the Super Bowl 4 years ago, where his beloved Green Bay Packers beat Pittsburgh.
Kit Carson is survived by his wife Theresa and two sons. Funeral arrangements are pending.
