The 18-4 Green Bay Phoenix received a single vote in this week’s Associated Press poll and they also got a boost from Oakland University which knocked off Cleveland State 59-56 Monday night that leaves Green Bay alone atop the Horizon League standings at 6-1. The Vikings fall to 6-2 and they will host the Phoenix in Cleveland on Saturday night. The Golden Grizzlies have been the giant killers so far, beating all three top teams on their home floor, including the 69-66 victory over Green Bay, the only conference loss for the Phoenix. GB is coming off a 51-50 victory over Valparaiso last Friday night at the Resch Center and the Crusaders bounced back strong with a 73-48 rout of UW-Milwaukee Monday night. Wright State defeated Detroit 64-53 in the only other Horizon League game Monday night.
The Green Bay Phoenix women are working their way back into the AP top 25. In this week’s poll, Green Bay (15-3, 5-0 Horizon) received 27 votes, good for 28th place The Phoenix cracked the list at number 24 in late December but quickly fell out of the rankings after falling at Dayton. Green Bay hasn’t lost since and they continue a four game road trip Thursday night at Valparaiso.
