APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Heavy rain and strong winds affected communities across the area.
In Appleton, the last day of mile of music had to make some changes.
Stages that were affected by the rain were taken down.
“The bad news is unfortunately we had to cut about eight or nine stages because of various factors, the grounds are too wet, the stage might be too wet,” says Dave Willems, Mile of Music Team Member.
One of the venues that had to cancel music Sunday, was Rookies Bar and Grill.
“We had three bands scheduled today so that’s three hours of music and people coming over to say hi and have a drink, so we’ll lose out on money,” says Matt Susa, Manager of Rookies Bar and Grill.
Some of the venues that were cancelled cannot be moved inside.
“We lose all our music today because we don’t have the room inside to put them, so we lose out,” says Susa.
For many artists they were concerned about their equipment getting wet.
“Keyboards, soundboards, some of the soundboards out there are probably 10 or 20 thousand dollars and if they get wet they are kind of toast,” says Dawson Redenius of Good Morning Bedlam Band.
No musicians equipment was damaged, but it was a different story for some of the stages, including damage to tents and tarps.
“It’s going to be unfortunate that we lost some equipment, I don’t think it’s a crazy amount of equipment, but any amount of equipment is tough especially for our sound tech partners who make a living doing what they do,” says Willems.
Having a music festival in Wisconsin, this is not the first time weather has gotten in the way.
“This is our 9th festival so that’s 36 days when it’s all said and done. We’ve been touched by inclement weather and rain on eight or nine of them so we have done pretty well,” says Willems.
About 20 inside stages did open for the last day.
