LA CROSSE, WI (WTAQ) – A racial discrimination lawsuit by a former La Crosse police officer will be moved into federal court.
The lawyer for Tony Clark says the lawsuit was originally both a state and a federal matter — and moving it from state court would provide more types of compensatory damages and other remedies.
Clark filed his suit in April of last year, alleging that he suffered racial discrimination, and was then retaliated against after he aired his complaint.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission must issue a notice allowing the moving of the case. Once that happens, Clark has 3 months to file his complaint in U.S. District Court in Madison.
La Crosse Police and the city both deny his allegations, saying they’re without merit. Clark has since moved to Georgia.
