GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The state’s Elections Commission Administrator is arguing why he deserves to keep his job.
Senate Republicans are calling for Michael Haas to resign, planning a January 23 vote to oust both him and Ethics Administrator Brian Bell, citing their ties to the former Government Accountability Board.
Haas was one of the GAB’s leaders at the time of the secret investigation into Governor Walker and other conservatives, telling WTAQ’s Jerry Bader Show that his role was limited.
“Sitting in on some meetings. Later on in the process, reviewing some legal briefs, not for the investigation but for litigation connected to the investigation. It doesn’t fall on me to defend all of the particulars of what happened at the GAB. I was not involved in that investigation.”
Bader asks Haas if he understands why people might voice displeasure with the GAB.
“The anger or wrath that people have about the GAB, it’s been unfairly focused on me when everyone agrees that my role was very limited.”
Haas is asked if any improper actions took place during his time with the GAB, even if he was not implicated.
“I was not even involved in the investigation that people are angry about so it’s difficult for me to make judgements of what was proper or improper.”
You can hear WTAQ’s Jerry Bader Show weekday mornings from 8:30 to 11 am.
