APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — No one was injured after when Valley Transit bus caught on fire Tuesday morning.
Officials say an exterior compartment caught on fire around 6:30 a.m. Both passengers, along with the driver left the bus when they noticed a problem.
The Appleton Fire Department put the fire out. The fire department said the bus was on Schaefer Street, south of Calumet Street, on the city’s southeast side.
“I’ve been doing this business for about 30 years, and I’ve never had a bus on the street start on fire before,” Valley Transit general manager Ron McDonald said. “This is an extremely unusual event.”
The fire did not enter the interior of the bus.
Officials are trying to determine where it started and what went wrong.
