The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon had a decidedly home state feel on Sunday as state residents broke the tape in three of the four major races.
Martin Hinze of Wauwatosa captured the men’s marathon title in 2:28:46 on a cool and breezy morning. While it was among the slowest marathon times in the event’s history, Hinze still won in dominating fashion, beating the second place finisher, Jacob Klug of Chatham, Illinois by more than eight minutes.
Running her first ever marathon, Sun Prairie’s Michelle Lee won the women’s event in 2:41:22, again winning by a wide nine minute margin over Valentyna Poltvaska of New York City.
Naomi Fulton of Hartland came in first in the women’s half marathon in a time of 1:19;17, five minutes clear of Laura Schmitz of Oshkosh.
The only non-state resident to win was Daniel Johanning of Brazil who won the men’s half marathon in 1:09:15.
