The New Berlin Eisenhower Lions are back in the state title game after winning a taut Division 2 semifinal with the Monroe Cheesemakers 67-63 in the second Division 2 semifinal game Thursday afternoon.
Eisenhower will meet defending champion Beaver Dam Saturday afternoon, seeking it’s third championship since 2012. The Lions also won the Division 2 title in 2016 and had back to back runner-up finishes in 2012 and 2013.
After building an 11 point lead with just over 10 minutes to play, Monroe dug in and steadily closed the gap, creeping within one at 64-63 with :34 remaining.
That’s when Hannah Plockelman calmly sank three consecutive free throws in the final half-minute to preserve the win. She finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Julia Hintz led the Lions with 18. Eisenhower is now 24-3 on the season.
Sydney Hilliard led all scorers for Monroe with 25 points. The Cheesemakers also finished 24-3.
