NEILLSVILLE, WI (MetroSource-WSAU) The former police chief of Thorp is facing prison time in connection with the sexual assault of a young girl. Richard Boie was sentenced Wednesday in Clark County to five years in prison and 12 years of extended supervision.
The 74-year-old was found guilty in April of repeated sexual assault of the same child.
A criminal complaint says the abuse dates back to 2013. Boie was 69 at the time. His victim was 6-years old. She told social workers that she was touched inappropriately, and that Boie told her not to tell anyone.
He could have received up to 60 years. Prosecutors asked for a 12-year sentence. The judge opted for a shorter jail term, noting Boie’s age and that he did not have a prior criminal record. The victim’s mother and father appeared in court and read victim impact statements during Wednesday’s hearing.
Boie was police chief in Thorp from 1970 to 1978.
