WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — One of the three judges running for an open seat on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court stopped in Wausau Wednesday.
Judge Rebecca Dallet has spent the last 23 years serving the people of Wisconsin – first as a prosecutor and now as a Circuit Court judge in Milwaukee. Over the past decade, she has presided over more than 10,000 cases and 265 jury trials in a wide range of areas from domestic violence and misdemeanor court, to homicide and drug court, and civil and small claims court. She has earned support from over 340 judges and elected officials from across the state.
She spoke with WSAU’s Mike Leischner about her qualifications, saying she is the most qualified of the three candidates. She added that her record of jury trials, and time spent as a prosecutor give her the experience needed to serve the state’s highest court.
Dallet said she sees the role of Supreme Court judge as that of an umpire calling balls and strikes in a baseball or softball game, saying that if someone’s rights under the Constitution are being violated it’s her job to intervene.
She added that as a mother of three she is also running to ensure a safe and fair Wisconsin for her children for years to come.
The full interview with Judge Dallet can be seen above.
Sauke County Circuit Court Judge Michael Screnock and Tim Burns, an attorney with experience in in insurance-related law are the other two candidates running to replace Justice Michael Gableman who chose not to seek re-election.
