MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – The State Assembly’s top Democrat responds to Governor Scott Walker’s State of the State address.
Minority Leader Gordon Hintz says Walker’s inaction on transportation has led to Wisconsin having the country’s second-worst road system.
“Record transportation debt, delayed projects, and increased cost to taxpayers.”
The Oshkosh lawmaker also says Walker is changing his tone in calling for a health program that covers pre-existing conditions.
“It shouldn’t take low poll numbers and a tough re-election to do the right thing for the people of Wisconsin.”
During Wednesday’s address, Walker touted the benefits of securing the largest economic development project in state history.
Hintz expressed a different view, claiming Walker’s mishaps include: an unfilled first term jobs pledge, a mining bill that created none of the promised jobs, and anti-worker reforms that lowered wages.
“These failures led to a costly, economic, trickle-down fantasy: his proposal to offer the most expensive, state taxpayer-funded subsidy to a foreign corporation in U.S. history- the Foxconn deal.”
Hintz believes the Foxconn tax cut dollars should’ve been used to help grow or expand local businesses.
During Walker’s time in office, Hintz claims the GOP has been responsible for the largest school funding cuts in Wisconsin history.
“Wisconsin needs a sustained investment. Wisconsin Democrats believe education is the biggest priority and should be the biggest priority every year, not just election years.”
Hintz says Republicans prioritized tax cuts to the wealthy, costing the state $1.3-billion dollars by the end of 2019.
