EAU CLAIRE, WI (WSAU) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is ranked by BestColleges.com as the most LGBTQ-friendly college in Wisconsin. BestColleges ranks colleges and universities around the country in a variety of areas.
The Director of the UWEC Gender and Sexuality Resource Center said yesterday the ranking was a surprise, but is also an important honor for the school. “To have achieved this ranking speaks to the collaborative efforts on the part of faculty, staff, administrators and students to ensure that UW-Eau Claire is a safe and welcoming campus for LGBTQIA+ people,” said Chris Jorgenson in a news release.
The University has all-gender bathrooms in nearly every building and policies where students can use a name that reflects their gender identity. It is also home to nationally recognized programs such as the Eau Queer Film Festival and “The Bridge,” a resource center space.
“This is very exciting news and while definitely a reflection of the leadership and vision of Chris Jorgenson in our Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, this distinction is only possible with the support of university community members invested in moving forward together to ensure our campus is welcoming and inclusive for all of our students,” Assistant Chancellor Dr. Tamara Johnson said.
