The Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team was facing the dubious distinction of failing to win a single game on the road season but on their final trip of the regular season, they broke through with an exciting rally at Oakland University, beating the Golden Grizzlies 96-90.
Green Bay never led until Khalil Small made a contested shot inside with just over a minute and a half to play putting the Phoenix on top 90-88. He would add another hoop and the Phoenix held on after rallying from 10 points down early in the second half.
Redshirt Junior Sandy Cohen had a monster game for the Phoenix, pouring in 36 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Small wound up with 20 as Green Bay knocked a single game school record 15 three point shots for the game.
Kendrick Nunn did most of the damage for the Golden Grizzlies, scoring a career high 39 points in the loss.
Green Bay (11-19, 6-11) had dropped their first 13 road games of the year and they’ll play one more to finish up the regular season Saturday afternoon at Detroit Mercy.
