APPLETON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — More threats against Wisconsin schools have been made following last week’s shooting at a south Florida high school.
Police in Appleton say they’ve arrested a 23-year-old man who send an electronic message to the FBI saying he wanted to “Shoot up the school.” David Etheridge was arrested in his home Friday without incident by a SWAT team. Following a search of his home no weapons or other items related to the threat were found, according to Newsline 9.
It’s unknown what specific school Etheridge was referring to. During questioning Etheridge did admit to sending the message.
Etheridge has previously been accused of domestic violence, property damage, and disorderly activity. He’s currently being held in the Outagamie County Jail on a felony charge of making terroristic threats.
Ever since Wednesday’s incident there’s been increased police presence at several schools across the region, including a Stevens Point middle school, Nekoosa High School, Stanley-Boyd Middle School and Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua.
Lakeland Union High remains closed until Tuesday as police continue to investigate a threat discovered on social media and a note. At least one arrest has been made in that incident.
