GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Tuesday afternoon Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers discussed the team’s unified stance during the National Anthem in Week 3 and urged fans to join the team in showing solidarity prior to kickoff against the Bears Thursday night.
“This is about equality,” said Rodgers. “This is about unity and love and growing together as a society. We started a conversation around something that might be a little uncomfortable for a lot of people, but we have to come together and talk about these things and grow as a community and as a connected group of individuals in our society.”
“We are going to continue to show love and unity and this week we are going to ask the fans to join in as well, and come together and show people that we can be connected and that we can grow together.”
Last week, all 32 NFL teams took part in their own peaceful protests prior to their NFL games, which included some teams staying off the field for the anthem.
That protest movement ballooned Sunday following President Donald Trump’s weekend comments that began with him calling for NFL protesters to be fired.
It continued Saturday with the president rescinding a White House invitation for the NBA champion Golden State Warriors, who had said they were considering not attending.
By Sunday, it was one of the main topics of conversation on social media and around the country and continues to be heading into Week 4 of the 2017 NFL season.
