MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) It cost Milwaukee County taxpayers nearly a half-million dollars over two years to keep armed guards outside the home of former Sheriff David Clarke.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel columnist Dan Bice reports the sheriff’s office says for 34 weeks in 2015 and 2016 the county paid nearly $221,00 to protect the former sheriff at home, in addition to almost $227,000 officials previously revealed were spent this year.
Previous sheriffs had not had that level of security. Current acting sheriff Richard Schmidt said the 70-weeks of around-the-clock security because of threats against Clarke. The security patrols have since ended.
Clarke resigned several months ago to take a new job with a political action committee that supports President Trump. Clark was under consideration for a post within the Department of Homeland Security that never materialized.
