PORT WASHINGTON, WI (WSAU) The Fredonia woman who allowed her 9-year-old child to ride on the roof of the family’s mini-van will stand trial. She’s facing a felony charge of second degree recklessly endangering safety. The child was holding down a plastic swimming pool that was strapped to the roof because it wouldn’t fit inside.
28-year-old Amber Schmunk waived her right to a preliminary hearing yesterday and is due back in court December 12 to enter a plea.
Court records show Schmunk told police she thought putting the child on the roof was okay because her father let her do things like that as a child. Several other drivers saw what was happening and called police. She eventually pulled into her sister’s driveway and had her son get into the vehicle. She was approached by officers a short time later.
She faces up to a decade in prison if convicted.
