WHITESTOWN, WI (WSAU) An investigation is underway after a 17-year-old boy was killed in a hunting accident over the weekend in Whitestown. Authorities in Vernon County say the teen was accidentally shot by his 15-year-old friend while the pair was turkey hunting around 7:30 Sunday morning on a private land.
A police report says that 15-year-old’s .22-calibre pistol accidentally discharged while the two were getting out a vehicle near Highway 131. The victim was shot in the chest and died at the scene.
No names have been released.
Ontario Fire Department and Ontario Ambulance were called to the scene, but were unable to revive the victim. The Vernon County sheriff’s department and the Department of Natural Resources are investigating.
