WESTON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A vigil honoring the four people killed in Wednesday’s series of shootings, near Wausau, was held at Kennedy Park in Weston on Sunday.
Despite the rain, the park was filled with a sea of umbrellas and people gathering to support one another during this difficult time.
A member of the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office even described it as raindrops to help hide the tears.
Candles were lit for the service, and several religious speakers from the community shared words of encouragement.
Prayer boards for each of the victims were placed for people to share their words of condolences for each of the families.
Ribbons were also tied to each of the park’s pillars, a color representing each of the victims.
“We obviously had a blue ribbon representing officer Weiland, our pink ribbon is representing Sara, and the two red ribbons show protection that Diana and Karen gave to the wife of the suspect,” said Brandi Bradford who helped organize the vigil.
Everest Metro Police Detective Jason Weiland, Marathon Savings Bank employees Dianne Look, and Karen Barclay, and Sara Quirt Sann, an attorney were killed last Wednesday.
The shootings took place at a bank in Rothschild, a law office in Schofield, and an apartment building in Weston.
Multiple reports suggest 45-year-old Nengmy Vang is the shooter, but officers have not confirmed.
Since the March 22 shootings, members of the Wausau-area community raised money for the victims’ families and created stickers and other accessories to show support for Weiland, Look, Barclay, and Quirt Sann.
