MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Dane County is vowing to follow the Paris agreement on climate change despite President Trump pulling out earlier this month. Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced yesterday that the county will continue to adopt the agreement’s guidelines.
Dane County has already created a new Office of Energy and Climate Change. Its goal is to lower carbon emissions and increase the use of renewable energy. Dane County’s board will vote on a formal resolution next month. And they’ve sent a letter to the Wisconsin County Association urging other counties to do the same. Milwaukee, Glendale and UW-Stevens Point have also said they’ll continue to follow the Paris agreement protocols.
More than 1,200 cities and counties have said they will continue to follow the Paris climate goals.President Trump has said the deal would result in lost jobs, lower wages and closed factories around the country.
149 nations have signed the agreement.
