LA CROSSE, WI (WSAU) A La Crosse veteran is hoping to build a World War I memorial. Korean War veteran Louis Ferris announce plans yesterday to raise funds for the project. He was part of a group that raised $30,000 for a Korean War memorial. He says in the days since announcing the World War I effort, $400 has come in.
Ferris told WEAU-TV, “Young people, they don’t go to cemeteries and visit their grandfather’s grave, grandmother’s grave. They don’t do that, so they don’t think about the people that passed away, and I don’t want anybody to forget.” Ferris’ father was a World War I vet.
Ferris hopes to fill Veterans Freedom Park with memorials from all American wars.
