MARATHON COUNTY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Volunteers completed work on a 1.7 mile stretch of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Marathon County over the weekend.
The walking trail is entirely in Wisconsin and is intended to be 1,200 miles long. Tim Malzhan is one of the volunteers with the Ice Age Trail Alliance, and he spoke with WAOW Newsline 9.
“The principal theme of the Ice Age Trail is to interpret the effects of continental glaciation on the land,” said Malzhan. “There are ways for many coming generations to contribute to the success of the trail.”
About 670 miles of the trail have been completed to date. ATVs and other motorized vehicles are not permitted on any segment of the Ice Age Trail.
You can find more information on the trail here. It’s the only trail in Wisconsin to be designated as a State Scenic Trail.
