MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) – Police in Manitowoc have arrested a home burglary suspect following a high-speed chase.
Officials say they got a call from a homeowner in the 1200 block of S. 20th Street around 4 a.m. Monday saying she saw a man walking out of her garage carrying items.
The homeowner told police she yelled at the man and he ran off. Her adult son got into a vehicle to follow the man and he said he saw him get in a vehicle near S. 19th and Madison Streets.
An officer responded to the area, tried to make a traffic stop, but the suspect sped away and a chase ensued.
At one point, the suspect drove on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of Division Street. Speeds in this chase were estimated to be 80 to 90 miles per hour and officials say it covered a distance of about 1.5 miles.
The suspect pulled over in the 900 block of Division Street and tried to run away. Officers captured him in the 1600 block of S. 13th Street.
Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Daniel W. Fabian of Manitowoc. Fabian allegedly admitted stealing from the garage and said he also took things from another garage, although he couldn’t remember the address.
Officials also say they found some items from the S. 20th Street garage, along with an electric hedge trimmer and a blue dual-tank air compressor that didn’t come from that house.
People who live in the area are asked to check their garages and call Det. David McCue at (920) 686-6570 if they are missing one of the other tools found with the suspect.
Numerous charges are being requested against Fabian, including burglary, felony fleeing, felony possession of marijuana and other traffic offenses.
