OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – Oshkosh police are dealing with a rash of stolen vehicles in a short period of time.
9 vehicle thefts have been reported since September 1st.
Officer Joe Nichols says five of the vehicles have been recovered and there has been one arrest, a 15-year-old female from Oshkosh.
“In seven of them, keys were left in the vehicle, which makes it very convenient for a thief to walk around pulling a door handle and see if it’s open.”
In the other two thefts, the vehicle was stolen by someone that the owner knew.
Nichols has advice for vehicle owners.
“Take all your valuable out of your car, especially the keys and lock your vehicle.”
These were random acts of theft.
In the month of August there were 5 stolen vehicles in the Oshkosh area.
