GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ) – Grand Chute police say a 21-year-old Appleton man has been arrested for allegedly trying to carjack a woman on Thursday.
Authorities say the attempted carjacking took place outside of Pawn America, 500 Westhill Blvd., around 1:15 p.m.
Lt. Randy Reifsteck says a 26-year-old woman and her six-month-old baby were unharmed when a man tried to take the vehicle they were sitting in. Police believe the target was the woman’s husband, who was inside the store at the time.
Investigators say the husband and suspect know each other.
Authorities won’t say how the suspect was apprehended, other than to say he was taken into custody early Friday morning by Kaukauna police.
Authorities say a store employee who went out to investigate the incident may have prevented the carjacking from being successful.
The suspect has not been formally charged, but police are seeking charges including bail jumping. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
Two other men questioned in the incident were released without any charges being filed.
