GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – We’re learning more about a Howard village trustee accused of sexually assaulting underage girls.
62-year-old James Widiger appeared in court Friday afternoon, just a day after he was arrested and booked into jail on two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child.
Widiger had his bond set at $20,000 cash as prosecutors told the court they need more time to investigate. Formal charges have not been filed.
Green Bay police said Friday that there are two alleged victims right now. The ages of those victims are 14 and 26. The 26-year-old woman, police say, was assaulted back in 2003 when she was 13.
“In the investigation, we learned that these two victims had reported some behaviors that were very concerning to us and which led to referring charges over to the district attorney’s office,” said Green Bay Police Capt. Kevin Warych. “We learned that Widiger was giving private piano lessons. During those piano lessons, the victims reported some acts had occurred at that time.”
Widiger gave private piano lessons at a space he rented at Jim’s Music in Green Bay for years. However, Widiger is not the owner of Jim’s Music.
In 2005, Widiger was first elected to the Howard village board.
Green Bay Police is asking that any members of the public that have additional information about Widiger to contact their local law enforcement agency. If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Green Bay Crime Stoppers at (920) 432-STOP.
