APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Authorities are still trying to figure out what caused a fatal fire in Appleton Monday morning.
Police and fire officials got the call around 6 a.m. to a half-way house located in the 500 block of North Division Street.
Sgt. Dave Lund says during a search of the building they found two men who had been overcome by smoke.
“One of those individuals appeared to be suffering from smoke inhalation and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The other individual that was located was deceased.”
Lund says an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
There were four tenants in the housing unit who have been accounted for.
No word on a damage estimate.
