The Milwaukee Brewers bounced back from a dreadful effort Wednesday with a 6-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Miller Park Thursday night to win the series three games to one.
They won without three starters in the lineup. Johnathan Lucroy was given the night off, Ryan Braun sat with a sore back and Johnathan Villar remained benched over baserunning mistakes.
Starter Zach Davies gave up two runs in the first inning but settled in to pick up the victory, his 8th against four defeats, by throwing six and a third innings, allowing six hits and three runs with five strikeouts.
Hernan Perez, playing shortstop for Villar, tied the game with a two run homer off Robbie Ray in the third.
In the sixth, Martin Maldanado put the Brewers on top for good with an RBI single and Keon Broxton followed that up with a two run double.
After Arizona closed to within a run, Kirk Nieuwenhuis added some insurance with a solo blast in the 8th inning.
Jeremy Jeffress worked the ninth for his 24th save.
100 games into the season, the Brewers stand at 44-56. They welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates for a weekend series to wrap up the homestand. Junior Guerra will face Stephen Brault in the opener Friday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 PM on WTAQ.
