WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU-WAOW) — The unpaid suspension of Marathon County Administrator Brad Karger began on Monday, but a petition has been started to reduce the time he’ll spend away.
One of the petition’s authors, Kue Her, told WAOW Newsline 9 that the county’s Executive Board misused their power when they suspended Karger after he participated in the “Save Our Children Peace March” on his own time at the end of May.
“The board’s action’s were a gross misuse of their power, Mr. Karger has the right to freedom of speech, freedom to assembly,” Her said. “This petition is seeking to reverse their decision and have him immediately reinstated.”
Karger has said he regrets participating in the march itself, but not his opinion that Yang should not have been tried as an adult. Karger’s words angered police in the area, who urged an investigation into the rally to begin, leading to the suspension.
