Ashwaubenon, WI (WTAQ) – The Packers and Village of Ashwaubenon officials met with the public for the first time Thursday night to talk about the Titletown District plans.
With a $130 million development moving in, it wasn’t surprising to see hundreds of Lambeau Field neighbors pack Ashwaubenon High School to hear about the plans. Anita Destiche lives across the street from the proposed district and attended the meeting.
“there’s a lot of questions. it’s huge and people should take it seriously…because our children and their families are going to be affected by it”
The project includes a 10-acre public plaza, a Kohler hotel, Hinterland Brewery, and a Bellin Health sports medicine facility. A main concern was increased traffic. Packers President and CEO, Mark Murphy says that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing…
“quite honestly..I hope we have traffic issues. you want a lot of people coming here…but we want to be able to create a system where people can get in efficiently and the neighbors can get around”
The Packers also revealed some new details about the plans. They include a dog park for the public plaza, as well as an ice skating trail in the winter, which will turn into kids’ splash areas in the summer.
Village meetings important to the project will be held over the next several weeks. The Packers need the village to provide a permit and remove a street before construction can begin. Once those things happen, the Kohler Hotel is expected to break ground in mid-March, with the brewery and sports medicine facility to follow.
