MARSHFIELD, WI (WTAQ) – Marshfield Clinic is one step closer to building what it calls a “hospital of the future” in its namesake community.
Marshfield’s Plan Commission voted 5-1 Tuesday night to endorse conditional use permits for a 202-bed hospital across the street from the clinic’s main facility — and Common Council action will be the final step.
For years, Ministry Health Care has owned St. Joseph’s Hospital, attached to the Marshfield Clinic’s headquarters.
Ministry attorney Tim Feely says the area cannot support a second hospital, the current one is not at capacity, and workers are leaving due to uncertainty.
Clinic lawyer Stan Kirschnick says Ministry is gradually moving its most critical care from Marshfield to its Wausau area hospital — and the clinic wants to maintain a service level that Ministry’s cutting back on.
