UNDATED (WTAQ) – Two more people have confirmed they will seek the open seat in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.
Last month, Republican Reid Ribble announced he would not seek re-election this year after 6 years in Congress.
The first person to formally announce was Wisconsin State Senator Frank Lasee (R-De Pere), when he tossed his hat into the ring last weekend.
Now Terry McNulty and Wendy Gribben are ready to jump into the race as well.
“I’ve been eye balling the position for a couple of years,” McNulty told FOX 11, adding that he’s running on the Republican side. “I made a run for assembly in 2014 thinking it was a stepping stone to take this next step to Congress, and I lost the 2014 race but I learned a lot.”
Among the issues McNulty wants to focus on include national security, lowering the national debt and tax reform – specifically a flat tax.
Meantime, Gribben will run as an Independent.
“I believe I have what it takes to create consensus in Washington,” Gribben told FOX 11. She says there are many issues seen through her part-time job at the Piggly Wiggly in Crivitz.
“There are a number of issues that I would like to tackle, inequality, education, and woman’s health is another,” said Gribben.
Both candidates say they are not career politicians, and as political newcomers they can look no further than the man they will replace for hope to win. Ribble won the seat in 2010 as a first-timer.
State Representatives Andre Jacque (R-De Pere) and David Steffen (R-Green Bay); along with Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson, and former State Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber on the Democratic side are possibilities to run as well.
