GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – It will pay to have friends who attend the University of Wisconsin or LSU if you want to attend the big college football battle on September 3 at Lambeau Field.
That’s because the Green Bay Packers organization confirmed Friday that there will be no general public sale of tickets for the game.
You could also cozy up to someone who has premium Packers seating — since box and suite holders will get the option to purchase their usual seats, according to team spokesman Aaron Popkey.
If that fails, there’s always the secondary ticket market.
According to the UW athletic department website, Wisconsin will get 40,000 tickets and LSU 20,000. Ticket prices range from $91 to $118.
Popkey also said that Packers season ticket holders in the bowl will not have an opportunity to purchase tickets.
According to UW: UW Athletic Board policy dictates that a percentage of tickets be made available to students, which translates to 7,500. Approximately 2,800 tickets will be set aside for internal needs players’ families, staff, the UW Marching Band and the Wisconsin Alumni Association leaving an estimated 29,700 for donors and those with season tickets. Badgers season ticket holders should contact the UW Athletic Development office (608-262-1000) or ticket office (608-262-1440).
If you don’t currently have UW season tickets, you could purchase them before April 30 and make a donation to get yourself into the Badgers’ allotment request queue.
Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez said there have been preliminary talks with the Packers about playing future neutral-site games at Lambeau Field. UW currently has an opening for its 2018 season opener, according to UWBadgers.com.
The Wisconsin football team has played games elsewhere in Wisconsin, including Beloit, Milwaukee and Marinette, but never in Green Bay. The Badgers men’s hockey team played Ohio State at Lambeau in 2006.
St. Norbert College twice hosted Fordham University at Lambeau Field in a Vince Lombardi Memorial Game, winning both contests. The Green Knights defeated the Rams 14-10 on Nov. 20, 1982, and 18-9 on Nov. 19, 1983. St. Norbert also hosted Mankato State College on Oct. 29, 1960, defeating the Indians, 29-14.
