MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) – A snowmobiler had to be rescued from Lake Winnebago Saturday night after driving into open water.
Officials say it happened near Jefferson Park in Menasha around 10 p.m.
The victim was riding in a group of three snowmobilers. They left from a home on Rainbow Beach Road in the Town of Neenah and were heading to the Waverly Beach area when they encountered open water approximately ½ mile off shore south of Buoy 100.
The first snowmobiler, a 23-year-old Appleton man, was able to avoid the open water, as was the second snowmobiler, who is a 24-year-old Neenah man.
The third operator, a 26-year-old Neenah man, drove into the open water
The Neenah/Menasha Fire Department deployed their airboat, and rescued the driver, who was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. Officials say he was in the water for about 30 minutes.
The other two snowmobile drivers made it off the lake safely.
