MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – State funding has been endorsed for five more bills aimed at helping people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee referred the measures Thursday to the state Assembly.
The bills would add funding for Alzheimer’s research at UW-Madison, additional support for patients’ families and caregivers, a virtual program that shows people what it’s like to suffer dementia, and 4 new care specialists for rural areas.
They were among 10 bills recommended by Speaker Robin Vos’s mental health task force, and the other 5 were okayed this week by the Assembly’s mental health panel.
Vos says there’s enough funding to approve all the bills, after Governor Scott Walker asked that lawmakers limit their spending for this year to $20 million, in the wake of a smaller than expected surplus.
