UNDATED (WSAU) – It’s likely going to take Eau Claire County the full ten days to count all of its 55,000 ballots by hand. The county says it’s just as cheap and easy to count the presidential ballots by hand as it is to take the steps needed to certify a machine recount.
Dane County is the largest county that will count all of the ballots by hand. Milwaukee and Brown counties will use a combination of hand counts and optical scanners.
Wisconsin’s Election Commission says counties across the state have until December 12th to finish counting their presidential ballots again. The Wisconsin Elections Commission expects to certify the results the following day.
In Vernon County, the clerk’s office says they won’t toss incomplete absentee ballots in a state senate recount. Clerks are counting ballots again in the race between Senator Jennifer Schilling and Republican challenger Dan Kapanke.
Local clerks say voters cast the ballots in their offices and simply wrote “clerk’s office” for the address. Kapanke lost the race by 58 votes. He wanted the ballots thrown out.
