UNDATED (WTAQ) – The NFL has announced that Green Bay Packers linebackers Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers have been cleared of wrongdoing following an investigation into alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs.
In a statement issued Wednesday, league officials say they found “no credible evidence” Matthews, Peppers or Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison were given or used banned substances.
Each player was interviewed by the NFL last week, following threats of suspensions if the 3 men failed to speak with investigators.
Matthews, Peppers and Harrison were named in an Al-Jazeera America report in which a former intern at an anti-aging clinic, Charlie Sly, claimed they provided PEDs to those players, along with former Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and former Packers defensive end Mike Neal. Sly later recanted those claims.
Manning was cleared in a separate NFL-led investigation. Wednesday’s statement by league, however, failed to mention Neal who remains a free agent.
