RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — If you’re not a fan of either of this year’s major nominees for President, the city of Rhinelander has another option in the wings.
The city has begun their “Hodag For President” campaign in their downtown area. Owner of the Rhinelander Cafe and Pub, Brooke Johnson, told WAOW Newsline 9 that the tongue-in-cheek campaign is designed to have some fun and encourage exploration of the downtown district after major construction has slowed things down.
“People get bumper stickers on their car, free pins, posters. So far, every time we load up, they get wiped out,” said Johnson.
“They will hopefully gravitate more back downtown, check out the new streetscape, see that the parallel and the angled parking is doable. Everyone was very apprehensive about it, but everyone’s embracing it and it’s working out really well.”
The patches, buttons, and other gear to show support for the green creature in the race this November are free of charge.
