(WNFL) – The NFL has had a total of 730 accepted penalties called during the first three weeks of the season, and that is the highest total in league history during that span. The previous record for the first three weeks of the season was 716, set back in 2005. According to the NFL Penalty Tracker website, the two most frequently called penalties are holding and false starts. Three weeks does not make a season, but the Green Bay Packers currently rank fourth in penalties called against them with 28. Oakland and Tampa Bay have had 33 penalty flags thrown against them to lead the league. Buffalo is third with 30. Through three weeks, Arizona is the least penalized team in the league with 17 flags thrown in their direction. Last season, the Packers ranked 22nd in the league in penalties.
