STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A lawsuit has been filed by opponents of a proposed hotel in downtown Sturgeon Bay in the hopes of stopping the project.
City officials have agreed to transfer property to the Sawyer Hotel Development LLC.
According to the 10-page complaint, the property “consists largely or wholly of filled lakebed beneficially owned by the public under the public trust doctrine.”
The suit, which was filed Thursday, is from a group called “Friends of the Sturgeon Bay Public Waterfront,” consisting of Shawn Fairchild, Carri Anderson, Linda Cockburn, Russell Cokburn, Kathleen Finnerty and Christie Weber.
The listed defendants are the city of Sturgeon Bay and the Waterfront Redevelopment Authority of the city.
City officials have not commented on the lawsuit. No court dates have been set.
