MARION, Wis (WSAU-Wheeler News) Authorities are trying to determine what started a weekend fire that destroyed an historic plant in eastern Wisconsin that makes wood office products. Eight fire departments were called Saturday to Carver Wood Products in Marion. No injuries were reported. Officials say the business is normally closed on weekends, and nobody was inside when the fire started.
The structure was built in 1880, and officials say years of dust and small wood items helped fan-the-flames. Marion Fire Chief Joe Sthur tells WLUK TV in Green Bay that the steel collapsed onto the rest of the machinery and components inside. The company’s website says Carver was in business for more than 100 years with what it calls “a tradition of quality in the art of fine wood-working.”
