UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News) Governor Scott Walker now says he never expected other G-O-P presidential candidates to immediately follow him out of the race. When he dropped out two weeks ago, Walker said voters should focus on a smaller number of candidates who could give a “positive conservative alternative” to G-O-P front-runner Donald Trump. But none of the 15 remaining hopefuls dropped out.
At a recent appearance in Mequon, the Republican Walker told reporters he still expects a smaller field by the time the first caucus votes are cast in Iowa on February 1st.
Last week’s Marquette poll showed that Trump’s support has skyrocketed in Wisconsin since Walker left the race — but that’s not true everywhere. In Iowa, the Public Policy Polling group says former Walker supporters now endorse Ben Carson 68-to-26 over Trump in a head-to-head matchup.
Marco Rubio, Carly Fiorina, and Jeb Bush also lead Trump among Walker’s former Iowa supporters.
