MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – The Legislative Fiscal Bureau reports public school districts in Wisconsin could lose $48 million in funding over the next two years if caps are lifted from the state’s school voucher program.
Currently that cap is 1,000 students.
Under the Republican plan, students would get funding from their district to attend the voucher school. Kindergarten through 8th grade students would get a little over $7,200. High school students would get $7,856.
Backers of the voucher program say it gives students in poorly-performing public schools a way to offset the cost of transferring to a private school.
