MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – The homicide rate has skyrocketed in Milwaukee and some people who live there say it’s time for a change.
29 homicides have been investigated by police after two-and-a-half months. That compares to 7 during the same time period last year.
Led by Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, north side residents made a plea Friday to stop the violence in their neighborhood.
Hamilton pointed to makeshift memorials which mark places where loved ones were killed. He says the change everyone wants starts with people investing of themselves and getting involved.
Hamilton also thinks some funding is needed.
