CHARLESTON, SC (WTAQ) – Governor Scott Walker said Friday he can round up a winning coalition of voters that include all types of Republicans, as well as independents.
The potential 2016 GOP presidential hopeful is in the final day of a two-day swing in South Carolina, the third-earliest state to have partisan voting next year.
Walker told about 200 people in Charleston that he attracted 96 percent of all Republicans in his three elections for governor.
He said it was nearly universal support among Libertarians, social conservatives, Tea Party members, Chamber of Commerce types, and in his words, “everywhere in between.”
Walker said he learned that Republicans “don’t have to move to the center to win over” middle of the road voters. As he put it, “What you need to do is lead.”
