MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Wisconsin Democrats say they’re surprised that Governor Scott Walker is criticizing Hillary Clinton for doing State Department business on a private e-mail account.
State Assembly Democrat Mandela Barnes of Milwaukee calls it the “ultimate glass house” for Walker, after two of his former Milwaukee County aides were convicted of doing a similar thing.
On Wednesday, Clinton — the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination — said she asked her former Secretary of State’s office to release thousands of personal e-mails she gave the department. The Washington Post says the agency is considering whether Clinton’s use of private e-mails violated policies.
Aide Kirsten Kukowski with Walker’s national political committee said Clinton needs to answer questions about what she called “potential evasion of laws.” She also said that as governor, Walker has specific policies in place to ensure that state open records’ laws are “complied with fully.”
Kelly Rindfleisch went to jail for setting up what prosecutors called a “secret e-mail system” in which insiders in Walker’s former county executive office privately did county and campaign business for their boss.
Rindfleisch was convicted of a felony, and Darlene Wink was convicted of two misdemeanors. Both struck plea deals. They were among 6 people convicted in a John Doe probe into Walker’s county executive office. Walker himself was never charged.
