UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News) Two rounds of heavy thunderstorms are expected to go through much of Wisconsin today-and-tonight.
Folks in the far west are already being told to brace for strong winds, heavy rains, and hail this morning — along with possible tornadoes in the northern two-thirds of the Badger State. The National Weather Service said the afternoon wave of storms could also be severe into tonight. It’s all blamed on a strong warm front going through the state, with a cold front right behind it.
For this morning the Weather Service has severe thunderstorm watches posted until ten a-m for eleven counties in west central and southwest Wisconsin as far south as Platteville, as far east as Richland Center and Neillsville, and as far north as Hudson and Eau Claire. Forecasters say those storms could carry winds of up to 70-miles-an-hour. The Weather Service said a storm with pea-sized hail and 45-mile-an-hour winds was going through Douglas and Bayfield counties in the far north this morning. There were no immediate reports of damage.
The Madison area expects 1-to-2 inches of rain. A beach hazard warning is posted from one pm through this evening along Lake Michigan in Door, Kewaunee, and Manitowoc counties. Marine advisories have been posted on Lake Superior in the far north.
